Often we have heard our grandparents explain how they lived when they were children and it is difficult for us to imagine that in the house there was no light or running water or bathroom etc. We are surprised also that every year they killed several pigs and prepared all the pork-butchering themselves and preserved it all for the year without a fridge! This is all recent history. But if we compare this with our reality today, we see that many changes have happened. Visiting Casa Gassia enables us to travel through time and discover ways of life that are useful to us in order to understand our present. Casa Gassia is an eighteenth century Àneu house, situated in the middle of the old quarter Esterri d’Àneu. Magnificent building, this farm house is an example of a period when the local economy was almost exclusively based on agriculture and animals.

	Casa Gassia preserves it’s original structure, enabling one to see the singularities of family and domestic life in these Pyreneen valleys during the last half of the last century. From the objects exhibited offered to you, you are able to completely understand the activities that took place in the interior of a house, the relationships established between the people that lived in it, the work distribution and the domestic responsibilities and how marked the principal factors of change have been then and now.
